Galina Abeleva (1938 -2014)

OSEAN is sad to announce that Galina Abeleva from RAOM passed away on May 5th. OSEAN sends its condolences to her family and friends as well as her colleagues at the school.

Galina graduated from foreign languages faculty of Herzen Leningrad Pedagogical University. After the graduation from the University and before meeting with osteopaths, Galina first worked in The Turner Scientific and Research Institute for Children's Orthopedics, and then, she had been working for a long time at the R.R. Vreden All-union research institute for traumatology and orthopedics where she addressed the issues of medical informatics, having defended a dissertation in this area. Her knowledge of orthopedics and traumatology inspired respect and admiration in her medical colleagues.

Since the beginning of 90s, Galina worked closely with Russian osteopaths. She translated the first seminars of Viola Frymann and Frank Willard in Russia. She was the direct participant of meeting between Renzo Molinari and Natalya Bespala, the director of one of the first osteopathic centers in Russia – The academy of Child development. It was the historical event, which started the era of the European school of osteopathy (Maidstone) in Russia. From this time onwards, Galina would never be just a translator. She became the heart and soul of Russian osteopathy, its “walking stick”, particularly for osteopaths, who got their osteopathic education in European school of osteopathy. Thanks to her, dozens of leading osteopaths from all round the world could lay their brick in foundation of the Russian osteopathy.

Galina Abeleva was a leading translator and international coordinator of Russian academy of osteopathic medicine since the very start of the school, as well as close friend to teachers and students. Until the very last days, despite the severe illness, she took an active part in the school’s life.
